Best of 2022: #8 Fitzwater, Mosby, Weir Sign Professionally
Over the last 365 days, Concord University Athletics has enjoyed several career achievements, memorable wins and award-winning moments.
From December 22 through New Year’s Eve, the Concord University Sports Information Department will travel back in time to relive the top 10 moments and storylines of the 2022 sports year on The Campus Beautiful.
Three graduated Concord athletes had the rare chance to move onto the next level of their respective sports over the last year.
Women’s basketball All-American Riley Fitzwater found a home professionally playing in Norway this winter. Fitzwater was originally slated to begin her career in the Netherlands before finding a home in northern Europe. The all-time leading scorer and rebounder in program history is averaging 9.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per game for the Ulriken Eagles this year. She became the first women’s basketball player at CU to play professionally.
Women’s soccer All-American Yasmin Mosby went back to her native England, picking up a professional contract with Nottingham Forest of the FA Women’s National League—the third tier of women’s football. Mosby began her professional career with a goal in her first game August 21 against West Bromwich. She has helped NFFC to seven wins in nine games, good enough for second place in the league.
Former men’s basketball standout Matt Weir continued a tradition of the Concord program producing professional players. Weir landed in Luxembourg to begin his professional journey. Weir became the seventh different player from Concord to sign a professional contract since 2015. Among the highlights in the early career of Weir was this buzzer-beater for his US Basket Racing team.
