MBB Secures Victory at Home

Bluefield State University men’s basketball secured the final home game victory, 107-92, over Kentucky State University on Wednesday at Ned Shott Gymnasium.

Malik Tidwell led all scorers with 31 points, followed by Jordan Hinds with 18, Kaine McColley with 16, Rylan Bowens with 13 and Chase Page with 12. Bowens completed the double-double, leading the Big Blue with 11 rebounds on the night. The Big Blue shot 47% from the field, 58.6% from beyond the arch and 66.7% from the line.

Hirotake Ohashi got the scoring started with a wing three followed by a midrange jumper from Bowens to take the early five-point lead. A three from McColley put the Big Blue ahead nine, three minutes into play. After Jaaden Newell forced the steal, he found Tidwell for the corner three to give the Big Blue the 16-point advantage midway through the half. Kentucky State pulled within four at the 2:32 mark, but the Big Blue closed out the half outscoring Kentucky State 6-2 to go into the half with the 48-40 advantage.

Kentucky State pulled within four two minutes into the second, but the Big Blue answered with a three from Page and a two from Tidwell to go up by nine. At the nine-minute mark, Kentucky State cut the Big Blue deficit to one. The Big Blue answered with 11 consecutive points to take the 12-point lead. In the final two minutes, a layup from Tidwell extended the Big Blue lead to 16. The Big Blue had their largest lead of the night after Tidwell hit a three with 14 second left to secure the 107-92 over Kentucky State University.

The Big Blue will travel to Salem University Saturday, February 25th for their final game of the regular season.
