Softball Falls to Tusculum University

Bluefield State University softball fell to Tusculum University 12-4 and 12-2 on Tuesday at Red Edmonds Field.

Game One

The Pioneers scored two in the first to take the early lead over the Big Blue. Bella Coffman led off the second with a single down the left field line. Valeria Rivera put two runners in scoring position with a double to right field. A single from Taylor Henson brought two across the plate to even the score at 2. The Pioneers took back the lead scoring three in the third and six in the fourth. A bases loaded single from Calla Cooksey and a bases loaded walk from Emma Crawford brought in two for the Big Blue. The Pioneers added one in the fifth to force the run rule victory over Bluefield State 12-4.

Game Two

Paige Whittington scored early for the Big Blue, opening game two with a single to second base. Whittington rounded the bases after errors from the Pioneers to take the 1-0 lead. The Pioneers answered in the bottom of the inning with five. In the third, Whittington singled up to the middle and later moved into scoring position on a ground out and later scored on Pioneers errors. The Pioneers added six in the bottom of the inning and one later in the fourth to come away with the 12-2 victory over the Big Blue.

The Big Blue will travel to West Virginia State University Tuesday, February 28th with the double header starting at 1 p.m.
