Cost of college went up for all students at Bluefield State College

In-state tuition and fees rose 4.9 percent for 2018-19 at Bluefield State College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

West Virginia residents paid $7,056 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $328 more than the $6,728 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 91.8 percent more than residents this year, or $13,536. Their price tag grew 3.9 percent from $13,032 in 2017-18.

About 83 percent of the school's undergraduate population are West Virginia residents. And about 16 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 98 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 206 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.4 million and 100 students took out student loans totaling more than $589,677.

Including all undergraduates (1,275), 1,080 students used grants or scholarships totaling $7.6 million, and 759 students took out $5.4 million in federal student loans.
