Football Trio Recognized on CSC Academic All-District Team

The Concord University football team has put three players on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team that has been released.

Junior tight end Traivius Chappell, graduate defensive back John Merica and fifth-year senior offensive lineman Davis Roberson made the cut for the Mountain Lions. To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be carrying a 3.50 GPA and be a significant part of the team's overall success.

Chappell caught three passes for 14 yards this fall, but was a key contributor in Concord averaging 487 yards of offense per game. Over three years, the Halifax, Virginia native has played in 15 games in the Maroon and Gray. He has logged 10 receptions for 87 yards. Chappell has a 3.53 GPA as a computer science major.

Merica, a CSC Academic All-American from his time at West Virginia Wesleyan, carried a 3.79 GPA as a business administration major. The Bridgeport, West Virginia native is in his first semester of graduate school at CU in the MBA program. Merica started seven games this fall at safety as he collected 24 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. He had one of two defensive touchdowns for Concord in 2022 as he ran back his fumble 42 yards for a score at West Liberty.

Roberson, a native of Blacksburg, Virginia, enjoyed his most successful season as a Mountain Lion. He started all 11 games at right guard and was named All-Mountain East Conference Honorable Mention at season's end. Roberson and his offensive line mates led the way for the MEC's best offense, and one of the top five offenses in Division II, including the nation's best passing attack.  Roberson is completing his student teaching in social studies education, carrying a 3.59 GPA.
