MBB Downed by University of Charleston

Despite a season high for Jordan Hinds, the Big Blue fell to University of Charleston 90-81 on Monday at Ned Shott Gymnasium.

Hinds led all scorers with 28 points followed by Kaine McColley with 17. Landry Palata led the Big Blue in rebounds with seven with Hirotaka Ohashi adding eight assists on the night.

A wing jumper from McColley got the Big Blue on the board early, but the Golden Eagles answered with back-to-back layups to take the lead. Down by three, Hinds found Ohashi at the top of the key for three to even the score at nine. At the 14-minute mark, Malik Lacewell hit the three to tie the score at 16 followed by two from Khamaury McMillan to take the two-point lead. The Golden Eagles went on to score six consecutive, broken up by a three from Lacewell, followed by five more to take back the lead. Hinds put the score back in Big Blue favor after a midrange jumper and a three. After the Golden Eagles answered with five of their own, a three by McColley evened the score at 38 with under a minute left in the first half. The Golden Eagles would go up by two with 30 seconds left to go into the half with the 40-38 advantage over the Big Blue.

The Golden Eagles outscored the Big Blue 12-3 in the first four minutes of the second half to take the 11-point lead. The Big Blue pulled within six after a put back layup from Rylan Bowens and a three from Hinds. After a block by Palata, Hinds took it the other way to pull the Big Blue within five at the 11:37 mark, but the Golden Eagles didn't let up, building a lead of 20 with six minutes left. A dunk from Palata put the Big Blue down nine, but could not get any closer, falling to University of Charleston 90-81.
