WBB Falls in Final Regular Season Game at Salem

Bluefield State University women’s basketball fell to Salem University 70-58 on Wednesday at T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.

Azariah Binford led the Big Blue in scoring with 15 followed by Gabrielle Thomas with 11. Dani Janutolo led the rebounding for the Big Blue with nine rebounds and nine points.

The Big Blue opened play with back-to-back threes from Essence Cowan. The Tigers took the first lead of the night with four minutes left in play, 13-12. The Tigers closed out the first quarter with a trip to the line to go into the second quarter with the 16-13 advantage over the Big Blue.

At the six-minute mark, the Tigers had built a lead of eight but the Big Blue answered with eight of their own to even the score at 23. The Big Blue took the lead with 59 seconds left in the second by one after two good free throws from Janutolo. After the Tigers took the two-point lead, a three from Binford put the Big Blue back on top. At the 18 second mark, a Tiger free throw evened the score to go into the second half.

The Tigers built up a five-point lead coming out of the half. The Big Blue took back the lead after seven consecutive points. The Tigers evened the score at 44 but a three from Janutolo put the Big Blue on top going into the final quarter.

After the Big Blue pulled within two midway through the half, the Tigers went on a 17-7 scoring run to take the 70-58 victory over the Big Blue.
