Bluefield State University women’s basketball extend to 10-10 on the season after a 76-68 victory over Salem University.

Aerihna Afoa led all scorers with 15 points followed by Essence Cowan with 14 and Londen Coleman with 11. Gabrielle Thomas added eight rebounds with Azariah Binford having seven.

Cowan hit back-to-back threes to put the Big Blue on top early. The Tigers fought back to even the score at 10 with 2 minutes left in the first quarter. The Big Blue answered with a layup from Janutolo and a free throw from Coleman to take the three-point lead. The Tigers closed out the quarter with five points to go into the second with the 15-13 advantage over the Big Blue.

The Tigers scored the first bucket of the second and then back-to-back layups later in the quarter to take the nine-point lead over the Big Blue. Down seven with one minute left in the first half, Katrina Davis hit the corner three to cut the deficit to four going into the half.

A trip to the line for Coleman sparked a 13-point run for the Big Blue to take back the lead by ten. The Tigers cut the Big Blue lead to seven with one minute left in the third, but the Big Blue outscored the Tigers 7-3 to close out the third.

With 1:48 left in the final quarter, the Tigers pulled within four of the Big Blue. The Big Blue scored six consecutive points to extend their lead 74-64. The Tigers answered with four, but a trip to the line for Big Blue Afoa sealed the 76-68 victory over Salem University.
